The main reason to get a hobby plotter in my opinion. 🙂 It’s easy to upgrade bought cosplays with heat transfer vinyl (HTV) decorations.
- Make the image mirrored to get it on the fabric correctly.
- Use a proper sticky mat: Use the standard stick mat.
- Set the lever on the side to 2: raise the knife a bit, so the mat with the material will fit underneath.
- Set the machine to half cut: or else you will cut through the plastic layer that keeps the vinyl evenly spaced. You’ll lose your pattern if you fully cut it.
- Use these settings for your test: Cut Speed = 5 and Cut Pressure = 4. Work from there to find what you need.
- Gently peel the rest material from the plastic layer to keep it nicely in one piece.
- Put some cotton fabric (dishcloth, left-over fabric) on the HTV before placing the iron on it. Take your time with ironing it on! Leave the iron on for 20 seconds. I like to gently move it, so I take a minute or two for small pieces. It just feels safer to me, but is not really neccesary.
Keep on crafting!
