Since there is a lot of information about 3D printers for cosplay, I get 3D printer information when looking for plotter information. Google, what is this? Plotter is not a printer! Anyhow, let me tell you about some uses I found for my Brother ScanNCut machine for cosplay.
- Cutting foam details: This machine cuts material up to 3mm thick. So perfect for cutting clean details for your cosplay!
- Making Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) applications: If you want to upgrade your (bought) cosplay, you can do so with HTV. The ScanNCut can not just cut the vinyl, but if you want to replace a decoration on the fabric with HTV, then you can scan it first to make accurate patterns.
- Making make-up templates: One of my favourite usages of this plotter for cosplay is making make-up templates. For the Mi’qote I made a template for the “whiskers” and the Malzeno hunter has a facepaint template. This would also work for Ahri (LoL), Miku (Vocaloid) and Kida (Atlantis).
- Cutting decals for props: Instead of messing with paint, you can use regular sticker vinyl to make decals for your props.
In my opinion, a hobby plotter is a versatile tool for cosplayers and I would advice it over a 3D printer, depending on what you want. It’s easier to maintain, and it is simpler to use. If you want to use more machines in your cosplay crafting, I’d go plotter first, 3D printer later to build confidence. If you have questions regarding hobby plotters for cosplay, shoot me a message!
Keep on crafting,
