Hi everyone!

Here it is: the first cosplay progress update of the year! I hope your year has had a good start and that you’ll enjoy your hobbies this year too. 🙂
I left off last year with working on the Malzeno armor. So far, I haven’t made progress on that, because I had a bad cold when I intended to make patterns for the armor. That’s how it goes sometimes.

The palico prop saw a lot of progress, instead! It is assembled, covered in fake fur and airbrushed too. The face was a bit of a challenge, as I decided to make it a little realistic and inspired by Dalischa (my cat). I messed up with the eyebrows first, which made it very scary looking, but I found out what to change on it. Now it looks way cuter!
And I also started the Primordial Malzeno armor for the Palico by making a bodysuit/morphsuit and embroidering a similair emblem on it as my Hunter’s Malzeno armor has. The nails are made from friendly plastic, but the rest of the armor is foamwork with fairylights and fiber optics to get it glowing.

Last but not least for 2023, I made a few gifts! A dragon coaster set, an embroidered D20 keychain and bat keychains all made with my embroidery machine. It was great to hear it go again, after I had to sent it away for a month long maintenance last year. Made myself a cute bat keychain too for my new car. 😀

That was where I left last year, but I already started something this year: Fern from Sousou no Frieren.

I styled an old wig for her and I made her white dress out of simple cotton. (Finally got around to learning how to use my buttonhole foot!) For the cloak, I will draft my own pattern with added pockets. I feel this can be a very comfortable choice for a cosplay and I want to be able to carry my wallet and phone with me easily. There are some pieces that will be difficult for me to make right: the butterfly hairpin, the bracelet and the boots. 3D printing would be great for the hairpin and bracelet, but I don’t own a printer and I haven’t tried 3D modeling yet. The boots have no clear reference, so I am free to do whatever and that’s not my preferred way of working. The staff is a thing I want to be able to separate. (For easier transport and storage.) Time to work that out!

Keep on crafting!
