Hi everyone,

The Midsummerfair at the Archeon had it’s first edition this year and I was lucky enough to have time to go there. A ticket was bought and we (Fhant and I) hadn’t prepared special outfits. It’s been a long time since we visited this kind of event and it would be very warm, so we decided to go in regular clothes. I was looking forward to baking bread on a stick, archery and swordfighting at this event. These are things I have done many years ago, before Elfia (then: Elf Fantasy Fair) stopped doing these fun things and became a big market with lots of resellers. My nostalgia to way back then is big, so the Midsummerfair had big shoes to fill!

Fhant and I chose to not be there at the start of the event. We arrived around 12 o’ clock and could just scan our tickets and walk into the museumpark. It was the longest and hottest (so far) day of the year and thus we looked for a place to refill our water bottles and apply sunscreen. The bathrooms were perfect for that (and recommended by the event), so we didn’t have to pay for all the drinks we needed. There was also plenty of shade, so we weren’t sun-burnt after walking around there.

We started exploring the park from pre-historic era, which was a bit intense to start with with the rituals they were acting out. When I go here again, I will probably go medieval or Roman era first, as I am not too much of a stranger to that history. I did spot a lot of lovely places for pictures and regretted not being in costume. (Not for long, cause I was sweating a bunch and costumes are even hotter :(.) When we stumbled upon the monastary, I kinda wanted to go for a drink. It was just a tad too busy, so we walked on. At the Roman part of the park, it was more quiet, and thus we got some drinks before we explored more in-depth.

Near the Roman area was the market and I really wanted to see what was being offered here. I saw a lot of variety (other events: take note!) and thus was inspired to think about a second design for my Satyr OC. I bought myself a cute dice necklace and Fhant got me adorable cat pins. I didn’t want to buy something pretty that I’m possibly not going to wear, so I did not buy any of the capes or crowns that were catching my eye. (Okay, I am a bit sad about that tbh.)
The music acts were fun, the activities that we walked past, seemed nice too, the crowds weren’t too big and people were pleasant even though it was a harsh day.

Of the activities we wanted to do, we only did archery. The sword fighting was nowhere to be found (by us. Might have been the heat). And the bread on a stick was simply too busy. Which was sad, but definitely okay. It was a struggle with the heat all day, so it was difficult to keep going all day. Fhant and I decided to call it a day at around 16:30, a bit earlier than we both hoped for, but we were just tired. On the way back, we were talking about the possibility of going to the midwinterfair. This midsummerfair seemed nice, but the heat made it impossible to fully enjoy the event. And the midwinterfair should have none of that.

But would I come back here? Absolutely.

Keep on crafting,
Amirine
