Hi everyone!
As promised in my previous blog post, here is the warm-up (aka looking forward to) post for Gameforce. I will be there to prepare at the 4th of October and on the 5th, I will be there to participate in the competition and hang out with friends (who dared me to join this compo). I do have some hope for this competition: there’s someone experienced who is handling the files, judges and cosplay-related tasks, which already makes a world of difference. There’s a stageplan! A required buildbook Powerpoint! Minimum requirements and formats for a background video! In my opinion, this is basic stuff that you need for a competition that involves an acting and crafting component. So I am happy to see them this time around. (Not all competitions have this. And the competitions I entered without these requirements felt unprepared.)
Also, I love that we can practice on stage the day before. I get that it is difficult on the day of (as I have been to an event on the same location before). It would have been easier for the organisation to just abandon the idea of a rehearsal for the cosplayers. But they didn’t. Love that! Please, event organizers, take note! <3
The rules and requirements also are really clear and that makes it easier to participate. Having an idea of the framework, helps to define what you can and can’t do as a participant. And it helps strenghten the judge’s decisions. Since I was dared to participate as Fern (Sousou no Frieren) in her Winter outfit for this edition, I was facing this question: Why am I participarting with an anime cosplay in a competition at Gameforce?
Next to being dared, it is simply because I didn’t want to enter with my Velkhana armor again. I don’t have a good skit in mind for that one. And I have no other cosplay that feels right to me for a competition right now. (I really am a bit sad about not having Malzeno finished, but yeah, Fern took my heart and ran.) If you see me at Gameforce, please say hi! I have a few mini mimics to hand out and I have new business cards.
